Ambassador Childress Meets with President Magufuli

The Ambassador of the United States to Tanzania Mark Childress was pleased to meet yesterday with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. John Pombe Magufuli to discuss the full range of bilateral issues and the strong partnership between the two countries.  They discussed plans to sign a strategic assistance agreement between the Government of Tanzania and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).  Under the agreement, which aligns both countries’ roles and responsibilities with USAID’s five-year Country Development Cooperation Strategy (PDF 2.15 MB), USAID will continue to invest more than $400 million annually in health, agriculture, natural resource management, education, energy, and good governance in Tanzania.  This USAID program is part of the previously committed $800 million in ongoing assistance that the United States spends annually on development and other bilateral programs in Tanzania across the full range of sectors to improve health and education, promote broad-based economic growth, and advance regional security.
