The Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP), part of the larger Fulbright Program, was established in 2001 by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). This program provides local organizations, referred to as host institutions, the opportunity to access U.S. expertise that they may not otherwise have access to. Where an organization needs expert assistance on a specific, clearly defined project, they can apply to have an American academic or other professional who has the required expertise, assist them as a Fulbright Specialist. The Fulbright Specialist can be an individual known to the host institution or could be identified by the Fulbright Program based on the host institution’s requirements. These projects are typically for 2-6 weeks and are host institution initiated.
