U.S. Embassy Brings AWEsome Entrepreneurship Program to Mbeya Businesswomen

On July 20, the U.S. Embassy  launched the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) in Mbeya, a White House-led Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative to support women entrepreneurs around the world. Thirty three Tanzanian women will participate in the 13 weeks of online training facilitated by U.S. Government exchange program alumni and project partner, SELFINA, which will take place at the Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST).

The Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) in Mbeya is the sixth cohort of this program in Tanzania, other regions that have received this training include Dar es Salaam, Iringa, Zanzibar, Mwanza, and Dodoma. Through the program participants learn how to develop a business plan, create marketing materials, and hone their networking skills, empowering them to take charge of their businesses and succeed as business owners. The District Commissioner of Mbeya District Hon. Rashid Chuachua and the Vice Chancellor of MUST, Prof. Aloyce Mvuma, along with a U.S. Embassy representative, attended the launch event.
