Dar es Salaam, TANZANIA. The United States highly values its long-standing and successful partnership with Tanzania in the health sector, particularly the progress Tanzania has achieved in the global HIV/AIDS response with support from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
We remain committed to working with Tanzania to combat the totality of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and therefore welcome the October 25 statement by Honorable Minister Ummy Mwalimu, which reiterated the Government of Tanzania’s commitment to providing health and HIV services to all Tanzanian citizens without discrimination.
We also appreciate the Government of Tanzania’s acceptance of World Health Organization (WHO) standards and internationally-accepted best practices for prevention and treatment, including guidelines for providing services to key populations.
The Minister’s public commitment to working with implementing partners and NGOs supporting the Government of Tanzania in this area will help to ensure that services get to the people and places where they are needed most, including the approximately 1.4 million men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS throughout the country.
The United States welcomes continued partnership with Tanzania to address health priorities in the country, including our shared goal of an AIDS Free Generation.
